What? Me worry?

madd2I recently posted a video on Facebook, and was actually surprised but the reactions, both public and private.  I thought the content of the video was quite clear, and dead on … I may be in a minority … but that is nothing new.  I frequently poke fun at politics in general, I find it and its most ardent fans much more entertaining than I probably should.  This is a one of the few times I will address politics in a serious manner, so let me clarify my position on politics in general, and  specifically, the current election cycle.

God is in control.

I don’t care who wins this election.  I don’t care, because it doesn’t matter.  That’s right, I said it, it does not matter.  If God wants Ms. Clinton in the White House nothing I do will prevent it, if He doesn’t, nothing anyone does will permit it, the exact same is true about Mr. Trump.

“”Oh but Randy, it will be horrible if __<fill in your current bridge troll>__ gets elected, … illegal immigrants … the debt … the Supreme Court … our rights … Christians persecuted … wars … Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes … human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!””    — (apologies to Dr. Venkman)

God is in control.

The sky will not fall if Ms. Clinton or Mr. Trump is elected unless God commands it to fall.  The world will not end one second before the fullness of time as determined by God.  When God determines it WILL fall, no one in the White House will be able to do ONE thing to prevent it.  According to MY scripture, He has PROMISED that it WILL get a lot worse …. a LOT worse …. before it gets better …. a LOT better.

God is in control.

But one thing those of us who claim to be Christian need to consider; if God used the Babylonians to discipline His chosen people, killing most and scattering the rest into exile across the known world, what makes US believe we can behave as we do and get away without discipline? How can we fail to love the “least of these” as He loved us, as He has commanded us and not expect consequences for those actions?  Maybe we deserve whoever wins this election??

God is in control.

And, you know, that “hate the sin, love the sinner” crud doesn’t hold water when you act like you hate the sinner as well.  Read Matthew 5:40-42 (the letters are in red) and tell me what a Christian baker should have done and how the Body of Christ should behave. What would He have done?? What should we do??  We Christians are so quick to condemn the sins we don’t commit, the only things quicker are our excuses for the sins we do commit, the sins we don’t just tolerate in ourselves, but cherish.  Which of us is less a sinner than are the targets for our stones?? Which of us were any better before He chose us?? “” … for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God””

God is in control.

No, I’m not sticking my head in the sand (or anywhere else), and no I’m not abdicating my responsibility as an American … well maybe I am at that … maybe I should … Maybe as a Christian I should remember that this is not my home, I am merely passing through, a sojourner, a pilgrim. I am not my own, I am His, His workmanship, specifically created in Christ Jesus for the work He has prepared beforehand for me here.  That work has little to do with politics and great to do with loving the people He loves, the lost; He loves them, us, me so much He’d rather die than be separated.  That work will remain without regard to who sits in the White House.

God is in control.

Don’t know about you, but I find great comfort in the fact that God really is in control.  Whether our ship is sinking or being raised is not my concern.  My concern, our concern, our CHIEF concern should be His work here, loving the lost, sharing His Good News with everyone we meet, and being His voice in this wilderness.  Whether our feet be placed on a pedestal or our necks on a chopping block, we are His and are to be about His work.

God is in control.

If we Christians are indeed looking to, expecting, His glorious return, then we should also be looking to and expecting the promised tribulation heralding that return.    If this truly be the end, then Praise God!!, “even so come Lord Jesus”.

“”Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God …””  –2 Peter 3:11-12 (NKJV) *1
