a song for suffering

this side of eternity, life is broken
to be sure it is filled with glorious moments; the birth of a child, sweet salvation, a father’s smile, the touch of a beloved wife, a fractional glimpse of an infinitesimal idea of God’s glory, true worship
but life is still broken. our lives, all of them, are broken at some point, many points, in some way, many ways, and too few of them small.
physically, emotionally, mentally, relationally, spiritually broken; mostly irreparably broken

we trundle on,

we do not lose heart

… we are being prepared

for the eternal

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. — 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (ESV**)
